Ewing chapter 1 "choice" and change

The thing that was important about the conversation of choice was that even though choice sounds good when discussing options on schooling for students it often leaves Black families at a disadvantage because options may be limited by access to transportation, information, and time.

My biggest takeaway from this chapter is how nontransparent CPS and the alderman were being, it seemed like neither wanted to take responsibility for their play in the decision-making.

Supporting quote: "We also need to know who makes the decision about Dyett. Is it the alderman? Because CPS says its the alderman, and the alderman says its CPS. We need clarity on who makes the decisions about what takes place at Dyett High School." (pg 36)
