Both the story of coates and the video emphasize the case of systematic racism, theft and financial harm that black Americans had to cope with, which can go from generation to generation.  Some Black Americans were being forced from their family home,  because of tax increases as neighborhoods were being gentrified.  In the video when answering the questions he used pathos to  highlight the unfair treatment of the minority.
