Subject: Especially for HBCUs - IBM Global University Programs is Announcing the new IBM Masters Fellowship Program

Dear HBCU President,

IBM's Global University Programs team is hoping that you, your colleagues, friends, and family are all safe and well and that the Fall semester at your university is moving ahead with minimal disruption.  It's definitely a challenging time.  However, as a valued academic leader, we want you to be especially aware of this unique opportunity for your Masters students.

IBM is pleased to announce the inaugural 2020 IBM Masters Fellowship.  Strong collaboration with faculty, students, and universities is vital to IBM.  The IBM Masters Fellowship Program advances this collaboration by recognizing and supporting exceptional students who want to make an impact leveraging  promising and disruptive technologies, regardless of their field of study.

Candidates currently enrolled in master’s programs in the sciences, arts, nursing, business, and law, for example, could easily be nominated with a focus area in one of the following strategic technologies:

·       Hybrid Cloud

·       Quantum Computing / Quantum Systems

·       Artificial Intelligence

·       Cloud / Open Source Technologies

·       Security / Cyber Security

·       Data Science

·       Systems

The 2020 one year IBM Masters Fellowships are awarded in the United States only.  The U.S. country award will be $10,000.

Additional Information

Students must be nominated by a faculty member. The nominator provides the supporting documentation (resume, list of publications, thesis/project topic, etc.), categorizes the student's initial career interests, and submits the nomination for evaluation.  Students should have six (6) months remaining in their graduate program at the time of nomination.

We encourage faculty advisors of graduate students enrolled in Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to submit nominations until October 23, 2020.

The 2020 IBM Masters Fellowship program supports IBM’s long-standing commitment to workforce diversity and encourages the nomination of women, minorities, and others who contribute to diversity. Specifically, this innovative new IBM Fellowship seeks to increase the number of under represented minority students from disadvantaged backgrounds focusing on strategic areas of science.
