This course explores the nature and functions of the U.S. national government, using the concept of democracy as organizing tool. Matters covered in the course include an analysis of U.S. founding documents, and the U.S. Supreme Court's interpretation of civil liberties. The course is part of the university's general education program, designed to expose students to people, ideas, and events that have important influences on humans and their environments, among other goals.
