• Online vs. Face to Face Instruction

Please check the Announcements for information on how to complete OCT

Online teaching is different from fact to face teaching. You will need to begin to build a learning community in your course right out the gate. Community building impacts student retention and satisfaction. Building a learning community fosters a sense of shared goals amongst you, the instructor, and the students. In this module, we will review community-building activities such as teacher presence, engagement and interaction with students. Here are a couple of tips that you can use to build community with your learners: Communicate clear expectations, and create engaging synchronous (real-time) sessions for your class.

By the end of this module, you will:
    • Be able to list at least 3 examples of how to build (presence) community in your online course.
    • Understand how your role changes from teaching face-to-face to being a facilitator in an online course.
    • Understand how to engage students in your online course.
